Slice of Life

My name is Alexandra Cata and this is my blog for LIT 3400. I am senior at the University of Florida pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Music Performance minor on flute. I have been a member of the Pride of the Sunshine Gator Marching Band for all of my college tenure and I am a member of Phi Mu Fraternity and Tau Beta Sigma, National Honorary Band Sorority. I live off campus with a friend of mine who is also in band and I have no car. I am from Stafford, VA and I have three other siblings, one of them is an architecture major here at UF. I love reading, writing, music, anime/manga, and casually playing video games.

This blog is designed to help the students of LIT 3400 understand e-lit and present that understanding in a live, technological medium. A blog is a technological way to document things in a literary fashion that allows the use of text and visual images, which is how e-lit is constructed. In this respect a blog could be considered the ultimate example of e-lit, it is always combining text and visual aesthetics in a live technological setting. For this blog, e-lit is examined in respect to Italo Calvino’s Six Memos for the Next Millennium. Each memo is broken down individually and examined in terms of Calvinos explanation, an e-lit example, a graphic art example from Graphic Design: The New Basics by Ellen Lupton and Jennifer Phillips, an analogy of Calvino’s memo, and a personal emblem for that memo. Through the breakdown of each memo, I hope that you understand Calvino’s message and how e-lit represents it.
